Is your beef grass-fed and grass-finished?

Dry Fork Creek Farms’ cattle are grass fed from birth and grass finished before processing. They graze wild grasses and legumes from our pastures through the growing season and are supplemented with high quality dry hay for a few months in the winter.

Are your cattle raised in a feedlot?

Never. Our cattle spend their lives out on pasture grazing.

Why does it matter where grass-fed beef is raised?

Different areas of the country naturally grow different types of grasses that result in varying qualities of beef from those cattle consuming those forages. There's a reason that most beef is raised in the center of our country. It's because we can grow diverse forage that provides complete nutrition for our cattle. Because we also have the added advantage of living in the southern half of the U.S., we benefit from the ability to graze our cattle year-round with very little hay supplementation. THIS MATTERS!

What do Dry Fork Creek Farms’ cattle eat?

After the calves are weaned from the cow, our calves are raised solely on the variety of native grasses, forbs, and legumes that grow on our farm. For any winter needs, we supplement with hay and also stockpile our pastures for winter grazing.  This means that our cattle are often still grazing grass that provides excellent nutrition during the winter months.  Our cattle are eating a similar diet year after year that results in beef with a consistent taste.

What breed of cattle does Dry Fork Creek Farms raise and sell?

Our cows are primarily Black Angus/Hereford Mix (i.e., Black Baldies).  We utilize a South Poll bull to improved genetics that enable our cattle to thrive on grass with no need for grain.

Are any hormones or antibiotics fed to the cattle?

NO!  Our cattle receive NO growth hormones, steroids, or antibiotics. We don't want any of those things in our food, either! Our cattle are healthy and don't need them.

Is your farm sustainable or regenerative?

We practice sustainable farming and regenerative farming. We do this by rotating the cattle through our pastures to build soil and grass health which ultimately produces better beef.  We don't have any formal certifications, but our practices are similar for many of the terms you can think of. We only produce food that we would eat ourselves or feed to our families and strive to be transparent about our practices.  Our animals are managed to build ecosystem and soil health. Where are your animals processed?

We get our meat processed at M&M Meats in Perryville, Missouri.  M&M is a well established U.S.D.A. inspected facility and reputable in our community.

Is your beef dry-aged?

Yes.  Dry Fork Creek Farms relies on the expertise of our butchers to determine the amount of dry aging.  This is dependent on the size and characteristics of each beef.  Each beef is unique, and this is not a “one size fits all” process. Typically it is 7-10 days.

How much freezer space will I need for beef?
